LVDTs and RVDTs serve a similar purpose when used by both Gas Turbine OEMs and Steam Turbine OEMs. They are sensors that are designed to measure power generation in turbines and provide feedback to industrial computers and systems that adjust accordingly to provide the desired amount of power generation.
In steam turbines, an LVDT or RVDT controls the flow of steam through the inlet in the turbine – closing the inlet reduces steam flow and power generation, while opening it lets in more steam, and increases rotational speed and power generation.
